The Kozelshchansk Icon of the Mother of God - This icon is of Italian origin and was brought to Russia by one of Empress Elizabeth’s (1741-1761) maids of honor, who was Italian.

The icon became famous in connection with the healing on February 21 (March 5), 1881, by the prayer of Countess Maria, daughter of Count Vladimir Kapnist, who had been suffering from a leg disease since 1880. Before going to the doctors in Moscow, Maria prayed to the Mother of God and, according to family tradition, cleaned her robe. According to legend, immediately after the prayer, Maria felt relieved and came to Moscow to the doctors completely healthy.
