The center icon is our “window to the eternal!” - VIRGIN OF OSTRABRAMA

VIRGIN OF OSTRABRAMA - OUR LADY OF MERCY - OUR LADY OF THE DAWN

The original holy image of Our Lady of Ostrabrama is housed in the chapel of the Dawn Gate of Vilnius,, Lithuania. This image of the Virgin is unusual in the Virgin is depicted without the Christ Child. The original "writer" (in the East an icon is said to be "written" that is to "teach") is unknown and its first appearance was in 1671.

The Virgin is twice crowned and is perched over a half moon. She is depicted as the humble servant of the Lord and a merciful mother. This is image is popular among Lithuanian and Polish faithful as well as Russian believers in that area. The icon was placed above the main Gate of the city of Vilnius to protect the city from Tartar attacks and the frequent conflicts with the Grand Duchy of Moscow.
